What it is like to live in a Cave House?

The cave houses are digging homes in the ground composed generally by clay terrain, for that reason all are curved forms each of them modelled to his own, having all the comfort of any other house. The whole cave houses create a beautiful place, marked by the contrast between the reddish ground and the whiteness of the lime of the chimneys and entrances of the cave houses. Inside, the ceilings are of vault forms that support without any risk any seismic movement. The compacted terrain through the millions of years makes its construction much more safe that any other house. The ground itself makes of thermal isulation, for which the temperature is very stable all year, ± 18 ºC approximately, worm in winter and fresh in summer, for which it is used always the same bed linen, although it has also heater for the most sensitive to the cold.

The decoration is rustic, with elements of the old agriculture and livestock tools. There are few digging cupboard in the clay terrain, as well as wardrobes.

The views from the Cuevas Abuelo Jose are impressive in winter and summer as we have views to Sierra Nevada and to the valley around Guadix.

Between the poplar trees you can see Guadix Cathedral and the village of El Bejarin as well as the chimney of the historic sugar refinery of Benalua (which is the symbol of the village) and the Terreras (the colours and shapes of the landscape) which make this area so special.
