What is to live in a cave?
The cave houses are digging homes in the ground composed generally by clay terrain, for that reason all are curved forms each of them modelled to his own, having all the comfort of any other house. The whole cave houses create a beautiful place, marked by the contrast between the reddish ground and the whiteness of the lime of the chimneys and entrances of the cave houses. Inside, the ceilings are of vault forms that support without any risk any seismic movement. The compacted terrain through the millions of years makes its construction much more safe that any other house. The ground itself makes of thermal isulation, for which the temperature is very stable all year, ± 18 ºC approximately, worm in winter and fresh in summer, for which it is used always the same bed linen, although it has also heater for the most sensitive to the cold.
The decoration is rustic, with elements of the old agriculture and livestock tools. There are few digging cupboard in the clay terrain, as well as wardrobes.
The views from the Cuevas del Abuelo José are impressive as in winter as in summer, since we have views to Sierra Nevada and to the whole "hoya de Guadix". Between the poplar plantations from the cave houses it is possible watch the Guadix Cathedral, the village of El Bejarín, the chimney of the old sugar factory of Benalúa which is the symbol of the village and the "Terreras" that makes to this area a place with a peculiar views.
